GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani

It is incumbent on GCC security apparatuses to be wary of the precarious security situation currently buffeting the region, said a Kuwaiti official at a meeting on Tuesday.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Lt.General Sulaiman Al-Fahad -- speaking at the preparatory meeting for GCC Interior ministries' undersecretaries, ahead of the 33rd GCC Interior ministers' meeting at a later date -- emphasized the enormity of the problem of terrorism that is plaguing some countries of the region.
He also underlined in his speech in the meeting the imperative that GCC youth be protected by the authorities from socio-political influences that may lead them astray, seeking excitement through illegal drugs, using social networks for ill-gotten gains, and acquiring unlicensed weapons.
Speaking at today's meeting also was the Bahraini undersecretary of the ministry of Inteior Maj. General Khalid Al-Absi who said the Arab region as a whole was being rocked by unsettling events ranging from all sorts of extremism to outright political rebellion.
He cited in that regard the political upheaval in Yemen and the recent terrorist attack in the Saudi Arabian region of Al-Ahsa where a number of policemen and innocent by-standards were killed at the hands of terrorists. He thanked Saudi authorities for their quick apprehension of these terrorists, urging tighter cooperation among GCC security personnel to quell acts of illegal nature.
On his part, GCC Secretariat assistant director for security issues Brigadier Hazza'a Al-Hajri, in a similar speech at today's preparatory meeting, indicated that the Secretariat had prepared the procedures that needed to be followed in order to implement the recommendations and resolutions and decisions arrived at in the 32nd GCC Interior ministers meeting which took place in Manama, Bahrain.
