Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea congratulated on Thursday President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the Egyptian people on the inauguration of the New Suez Canal.

In a statement, Geagea said the project stands as a turning point in Egypt’s history following four years of political and economic instability.

The finalization of the new shipping lane in a short period reflects the strong will of Egyptians to make achievements, he said.

Geagea added that the new waterway will smooth the flow of world trade and create more job opportunities for youths.

The new canal will cut the waiting period for vessels from 18 hours to 11.

The legendary project was mostly financed by investment certificates sold to Egyptians.
