The death of a five-year-old girl from a gunshot wound has seen a man spend his wedding night in prison

The death of a five-year-old girl from a gunshot wound has seen a man spend his wedding night in prison on charges of murder, according to a report in a local publication on Wednesday.
Mohammad Al-Dahas was quoted as saying that he was summoned to a local police station shortly after participating in his wedding ceremony in Al-Houyah in Taif. He was held for eight days, after which he managed to get bail.
He said that his wedding day had started well, with him going to a barber and then joining his friends and family for the wedding procession. Shortly afterward, he was summoned to the police station where he was told someone had fired a gun, resulting in the girl’s death in the neighborhood.
However, Al-Dahas claimed that he was not responsible for the child’s death. There were no firearms fired at his wedding celebration, as was customary in the Kingdom, he claimed.
He said the news of the child’s death was “very difficult to digest and comprehend.” To his surprise he found another groom and four others also in detention on the same charges.
Al-Dahas said that he has offered his condolences to the parents of the child, Shoumoq, but insisted he was not responsible for her death.
