Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Abdel Latif bin Rashed al Zayani has welcomed the appointment of Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed as a new envoy of the UN chief to Yemen.

GCC countries are keen on supporting efforts of the new envoy to complete the peaceful political process in line with the Gulf initiative and the outcome of the national dialogue, as well as relevant UN Security Council resolutions, Zayani said.

The Gulf is seeking to boost security and stability in Yemen, Zayani stressed.
