Armed elements attempted to attack a number of checkpoints in Rafah and Sheikh Zuwaid but were stopped by security troops.

Clashes between the troops and gunmen are still going on till now, security sources said Wednesday.

The terrorists fired mortar shells and RPGs at the checkpoints. They also opened fire at the troops.

Police are on high alert, the sources said, adding that 10 ambulances rushed to the scenes of the attacks.

No injuries have been reported so far, the sources said.
