Unknown gunmen shot dead a policeman in the northern city of Tripoli in the second incident of this kind in hours, according to the official National News Agency (NNA). Boutros Al-Baye' was fatally shot by gunmen toting automatic guns in Al-Qubbeh district in the port city, in Friday's wee hours, the NNA said. The policeman was driving his Range Rover when the attackers sprayed the vehicle with bullets. The four-wheel vehicle veered off the road and fell into Abu Ali River, which snakes through the Tripoli regions to the Mediterranean. The deadly incident that occurred this morning followed overnight gun-battles between foe local militias, entrenched in the opposing districts, Baal Mohsen and Bab Al-Tebbaneh. At least 26 people have been killed in this violence that broke some two weeks ago. Army troops and units of the Internal Security Force (ISF) have been deployed at key locations across the city in a bid to restore sustainable calm.
