Security measures were intensified in Luxor to protect all archaeological sites and vital and governmental institutions on the second anniversary of removing president Mohamed Morsi from power.

Mobile and fixed roadblocks were set up across the city with the help of units from the Special Forces and Rapid Deployment Forces.

Luxor security chief Hossam el Menawy had ordered security patrols to comb the streets in search of explosive charges and inspect all vehicles.
