Yemen's Huthi militant group appointed Ali Mohamed Abdallah a new governor for Shabwa province in southern Yemen.
Huthi fighters, backed by supporters of ousted Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh have been advancing in Shabwa despite intense Saudi-led air strikes against the group.
It was the first time that the Huthis and forces loyal to Saleh to appoint a top official in the southern province.
