The navy thwarted attempt by 159 people of different nationalities to illegally enter Europe through the Mediterranean Sea. 

A boat carrying people from Somalia, Ethiopia, Comoros, Eretria, Yemen and Sudan was spotted near Abu Qir, 23 kilometers northeast of Alexandria, military spokesman said on Sunday. 

They were taken into custody along three crew members of the boat pending investigations, according to the spokesman. 

Necessary medical care and aids were provided for the detainees, the spokesman said.
