Border guard troops in Abu Qir on Wednesday foiled an attempt for illegal immigration by 16 persons of various nationalities via the Mediterranean shores off Beheira governorate.

The arrestees included two Egyptians, 12 Sudanese, a Somali and an Eritrean. 

During initial interrogation, they admitted that they have paid dlrs 2000 per each person for a dealer to provide them with a ship to illegally immigrate to Italy.

Prosecution was notified to launch a probe into the incident.
