Trade and Industry Minister Tarek Qabil held two expanded meetings to discuss executive steps for two projects and ways of swiftly implementing them as part of directives issued by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to complete studies related to the two projects of furniture city in Damietta and leather city in el Robeiki.
During the first meeting on the project of the furniture city in Damietta, Qabil discussed measures related to the establishment of a specialized company from the Trade and Industry Ministry, Damietta governorate and Ayadi Company, which will be assigned to the establishment of a furniture city.
The project will be implemented in cooperation with the Armed Forces' Engineering Authority, given its experience in finalizing assigned projects in a record time, added the minister.
It is planned to finalize the studies related to the project and lay a foundation stone of the new city on May 8 to coincide with the national day of Damietta governorate, he said.
The minister, meanwhile, said that the project will contribute to increasing Egypt's exports of furniture.
Damietta Governor Ismail Taha said that the governorate gives top priority to this project, which will contribute to boosting the economic conditions in the governorate, providing more jobs to youths and developing the furniture industry.
During the second meeting, Qabil discussed the latest developments related to the establishment of leather city in el Robeiki in preparation of transferring the Old Cairo tanneries to the new city.
The ministry works on removing all obstacles in order to finalize the project, he added.
