Cairo - Arab Today
The Interior Ministry is acting to hone combat skills of troops, said the head of the defense committee at the parliament Kamal Amer on Tuesday, quoting Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar.
Speaking to parliamentary reporters, Amer said the minister had assured him that terrorism would not deter police from doing their job.
But the minister still acknowledged shortcomings that do not necessarily translate into a "bad situation", Amer told reporters.
A delegation of the defense committee had met with Abdel Ghaffar Monday to offer condolences for the death of police martyrs.
The minister assured the delegation that efforts are underway to get rid of the flaws, Amer further said.
He quoted the minister as saying: "Police are part of the people and there is mutual trust."
Amer made it clear that internal and social security and improving conditions of police troops remain top priorities of his committee, not to mention issues, such as NGOs and developing Sinai and border areas.
