The Iraqi army regained full control of the town of Daluiya, southern Tikrit, a move praised by Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi, pledging to achieve more security control in the war against ISIL.
A source from the military command operation in Samarra told KUNA that the Iraqi forces backed by popular local support units and Iraqi air support were able to liberate two Albu-Khazraj and Al-Jawari areas of southern Salahuddin province.
The source added that the Iraqi army has now completely regained Daluiya area and the Iraqi flag has been hoisted over many government facilities.
The source noted that Iraqi forces were able to enter Al-Mu'etasem airport after fierce clashes with armed groups, which resulted in killing many armed men and the liberation of trapped families.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Al-Abadi praised victory of the Iraqi army, security forces, and popular and tribes against the terrorist organization ISIL
The Iraqi premier asserted on the importance of maintaining such security progress against terrorist gangs, wishing for similar achievements to defeat ISIL
