Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi on Friday paid a visit to Iraq's top Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al Sistani in the Iraqi city of Najaf.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Abadi said that Sistani has stressed his support for government efforts to flush out militants of the Daesh terrorist group.

The Shiite Authority asserted that all forces, including Popular Mobilization Units, should be under control of the Iraqi government, the prime minister noted.
