Speaker of the Iraqi parliament Salim al Jabouri inaugurated here on Saturday the 11th conference of Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.
In his inaugural speech, Jabouri expressed hopes that the conference would introduce joint-Islamic efforts aimed at addressing challenges facing the Islamic world.
He added that his country was eager to work with other members to bolster the union's stance against all challenges.
Iraq formally received on Saturday the chairmanship of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States Secretariat from Turkey.
The Pakistani parliament was chosen as vice head of the Asian group at the conference secretariat, while Cote d'Ivoire was selected as vice head of the African group.
