Thousands of Iraqi protesters staged demonstrations on Saturday in the central Baghdad Square of Tahrir against Turkey’s deployment of military forces in the northwestern Iraqi city of Mosul.

Security was tightened in the square where demonstrators chanted slogans against the Turkish president and foreign forces presence on their lands.

On Friday, demonstrations were staged in Baghdad and several other Iraqi cities in protest of what they considered as violation of Iraq's national sovereignty.

Tensions have been running high between Baghdad and Ankara since December 4, when Turkey deployed forces and tanks in Mosul without the United Nations permission.
