Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh opened in Amman on Sunday the UNDP's Regional Hub for Arab States.
The Hub, which was opened in the presence of UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, aims to provide integrated services to regional offices across the Arab region, according to Petra News Agency on Sunday.
In remarks during the ceremony, Judeh highlighted the partnership and continued cooperation between Jordan and the UNDP and other UN agencies.
He said the selection of Amman as a base for the UNDP's regional hub, reflects the pivotal role played by Jordan at the regional level, noting that the Kingdom will benefit from the office and its experts and the programs and services if provides in the region. "It will also help the Kingdom in achieving the development goals it aspires to achieve" he added.
The UNDP Administrator Helen Clark said Amman is an ideal location for the Hub. Its central location in the region, along with its wealth of local talent, are of enormous benefit to UNDP's work across the Arab states".
She said that the purpose of the Hub is to enable UNDP to deliver on its mandate and to support countries in the region to advance human sustainable development.
