The Kuwaiti crew members of a worldwide sailing tour which aims to shed light on the mentally-disabled were invited to a reception at Kuwait Embassy in the Algerian capital on Friday after arriving in the country a day prior.
The crew of "Journey of Hope", headed by Jasim Al-Bader, was invited by the Kuwaiti Ambassador Saud Al-Doweesh to the event held in the attendance of several Algerian and Arab officials.
Al-Bader, in a speech at the event, spoke of the journey he described as "a humanitarian initiative with a strong message" for all families who have mentally-disabled members.
"Your disabled children have extraordinary capabilities that should be harnessed in order to be apparent," he said.
The seven-month-long journey is making stops at a number of cities and towns across the world and aims "to make the voice of mentally-disabled people heard by the world." Through each and every stop the crew has made, it has picked up on the different approaches to care for mentally-disabled individuals and these will be taken back home, he added.
The event showcased a documentary of the tour conducted by the crew, after which they were entertained by the Algerian traditional song and dance troupe, Al-Shams.
