Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov

It is important to Russia that Syria stays united, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday, according to Sputnik News.

"It is the Syrians themselves who must choose power structure of their country. The process should involve all confessional and ethnic groups living on the territory of Syria, whether it is Kurds or Shiites or Sunnis, Alawites, Druze and so forth," Peskov stressed.

He added that such a process must be regulated on the basis of inclusiveness.

"And they all themselves must take part in the preparation of a new draft constitution of the country," the spokesman said.

The issue of the Syrian federalization cannot be decided upon unilaterally by the Syrian Kurds, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Thursday.

On Wednesday, the media reports revealed Kurds' plan to declare the federalization of the northern Syria.
