The Kuwait Red Crescent Society announced the launch of an airlift to transport urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza upon instructions from His highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
"An aid-loaded plane left Abdullah Al-Mubarak air force base in Kuwait Thursday heading to the Ismaili Airport in Egypt," KRCS Treasurer and Board Member Saad Al-Nahed told KUNA Thursday.
"The flight is part of the launched airlift to send relief aid to people of Gaza." He pointed out that the plane carries a load of 10 tons of medical supplies to meet the shortage in Gaza hospitals.
"The plane's load would be transferred to Rafah crossing border where it would be handed over to representatives of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society," he said. He noted that the KRCS has already sent five shipments of humanitarian and relief aid to Gaza in the past few days.
"The move is a translation of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, government and people's desire to support and help allievate sufferings of Gaza people." A nearly month-long devastating Israeli offensive on Gaza has left nearly 1,900 Palestinians dead and over 9,000 wounded. It has also destroyed totally or partially thousands of homes and public facilities in the tiny densely-populated Strip.
