Kuwait - KUNA
Kuwait has underlined the important role of the US-led international coalition in countering the major danger posed by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
This came in a statement to reporters by Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry Khaled Al-Jarallah following the fifth meeting of the Kuwait-UK Joint Steering Group.
Al-Jarallah emphasized that the anti-ISIL international coalition should stand firm and continue its role in fighting the ISIL.
The remarks came following reports on some countries' withdrawal from the coalition. Al-Jarallah said the coalition's role and ISIL's threats were key issues on the agenda of his talks with the ambassadors of the US and Russia earlier on Wednesday.
He also voiced hope that the coalition would continue its war on the ISIL.
A US official was quoted as saying on Wednesday that the UAE stopped its pilots from performing strikes against the ISIL after a Jordanian pilot was shot down over Syria in December and subsequently burnt alive in a horrific execution.
But, the official said the UAE was still a key partner to the coalition and would allow US planes to use its bases.
