A disaster management working group meeting kicked off here, on Wednesday, to discuss means of promoting humanitarian cooperation to face common challenges in the region.
Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) is hosting the two-day meeting which is seeing praticipation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) as well as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, Lebanon and UAE Red Crescent Socities.
KRSC chief deputy Anwar Al-Hasawi said in his opening speech that IFRC in Beirut is prioritizing these challenges in order to find an effective five-year formula to face and bring under control these risks and disasters.
He also stressed the importance of exchanging local and international expertise in disaster management, enhancing voluntary work and utilizing the latest technologies to raise the efficiency in disaster control and prevention.
He added that KRCS was the first in the region to establish an operation center for humanitarian and natural disasters, calling for employing the center's knowledge and expertise to alleviate the suffering of disasters' victims.
On his part, IFRC Regional Representative for the Gulf Mohamed Babiker thanked KRCS for hosting this meeting that shows keenness to make the group's endeavors successful.
