Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabah along with his accompanying delegation left here Thursday for Egypt to attend the New Suez Canal opening.

A host of Kuwaiti ministers and officials saw the Kuwaiti emir and his accompanying delegation off at the airport.

Also, Egypt's Ambassador to Kuwait Abdel Kareem Suleiman was at the airport to see off the Kuwaiti emir and his accompanying delegation.

In exclusive statements to MENA, Suleiman extended thanks to the Kuwaiti emir for his constant support to Egypt and his keenness on attending the various Egyptian celebrations.

He also underlined the close ties binding Egypt and Kuwait.

Egypt will inaugurate today the New Suez Canal, which will massively increase the capacity of the existing canal and offer an important chance to boost the country’s struggling economy.

The new 72-kilometer waterway, built in less than a year at a cost of 60 billion EGP, runs part of the way alongside the existing canal connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

The legendary project was mostly financed by investment certificates sold to Egyptians.
