The eighth Kuwaiti-Moroccan higher committee meeting will be held Tuesday in Rabat with the gathering focusing on means to bolster bilateral relations.
The committee was formed in 2001 for the sole purpose of exploring means to boost ties between Kuwait and Morocco. The forthcoming meeting will be chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
Around 38 accords and memos were signed in the previous meetings between the Kuwaiti and Moroccan sides.
Kuwaiti-Moroccan relations date back to 1960 when the then Moroccan King Mohammed V visited Kuwait before the Gulf nation was independent.
In the reigns of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Moroccan King Mohammed VI, relations were further boosted with the two leaders exchanging visits in 2012.
Moroccan and Kuwaiti relations were at their pinnacle during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990 when then Moroccan King Hassan II sent 13,000 Moroccan soldiers to partake in the liberation of the Gulf country in 1991.
Since 1966, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) had offered 37 loans to help develop social, economic, and infrastructure projects in Morocco. In 2013, KFAED offered a grant of USD 1.2 billion to aid in the development of Morocco.
Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) also partook in the efforts to boost relations, working since 1976 to explore investment opportunities between Kuwait and Morocco.
