At an ordinary session held on Tuesday, the National Assembly (parliament) turned down a request from the Public Prosecution to lift the parliamentary immunity of member of parliament Abdulhameed Dashti in a misdemeanor case.
Speaking during the session, the head of the parliamentary legislative and legal committee, Mubarak Al-Harees, said a report compiled by the committee had concluded that the prosecution's request would not be granted.
Twenty-eight MPs voted against while eight others voted for the withdrawal of the MP's immunity.
