Renowned Algerian diplomat Lakhdar Ibrahimi was appointed Friday in Malabo within the African Union Wise Men Committee, said AU Peace and Security Commissioner Smail Chergui.
“The composition of the African Union Wise Men Committee was renewed during the Summit, and Lakhdar Ibrahimi was appointed as a member of it,” Chregui told APS.  
He underlined that Ibrahimi “had generously offered to contribute to the peace efforts in the continent and we sincerely thank him.”
It was also decided to appoint three women, a precedent since the creation this committee, said the official.
