Beirut - KUNA
An unknown number of Lebanese soldiers were killed or injured during fierce clashes with armed groups at the outskirts of Ras Baalbek town, northeastern Lebanon, on Friday, the army said.
Armed "terrorist" groups attacked Lebanese army positions at the outskirts of Ras Baalbek, which triggered fierce clashes that killed and injured a number of servicemen, the army added in a statement.
It added a large number of militants were also killed and injured, while the army succeeded in maintaining control of the area.
The army is determined to crack down on hideouts of militants in many parts of the country, affirmed the statement.
It said army troops killed four militants while trying to infiltrate into Lebanon from the town of Arsal two days ago.
The army dismantled explosives in a booby-trapped car near a military check point at outskirts of Arsal yesterday, a week after defusing a booby-trapped car carrying 120 kgs of explosives in the same area.
