Beirut - MENA
A Lebanese security source said Sunday that the army intervened to help the security forces in controlling riots in central Beirut.
The source told MENA that rioters set fire to a vehicle of the security forces, smashed a traffic light in Martyrs' Square, cut off main roads, sabotaged of public and private property and looted several stores.
The source added that a young man was shot by unknown assailants in downtown Beirut, at a place relatively far from the area of confrontation and was rushed to the American University Hospital in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Red Cross said that 45 people who were wounded in Central Beirut's confrontations have been rushed to nearby hospitals.
