Lebanese security forces stormed Roumieh prison, the country's largest prison, after prisoners took control of two buildings on Tuesday.

The forces ended the insurgency in the first building and work to regain control of the other one, a Lebanese security source told MENA.

The forces did not open fire during the ongoing operation, the sources said.

Security forces were forced to enter the prison after the failure of the negotiation process, the sources added.

Earlier on the day, Lebanese Interior and Municipalities Minister Nuhad Mashnouk sent his advisor for prisons affairs to Roumieh jail, notably to the building that contains prisoners who are already sentenced, in order to hear their demands after the protesting move they made out early today and that showed riot.

Meanwhile, Investigations into the case of Roumieh torture video which was posted on social media sites were closed on Tuesday upon the notice of Cassation General Prosecutor, Judge Samir Hammoud.

Five security members were detained upon investigations in the said case and the minutes were referred to government commissioner to the Military Court, Judge Sakr Sakr to take the appropriate measures regarding the prosecution.
