Lebanon's parliament on Wednesday failed to elect a new president for the 27th time over lack of quorum.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri postponed the presidential election session to September 2.

Twelve sessions during the past months failed to break the four-month-long presidential deadlock because of the lack of a quorum, raising fears of a prolonged vacancy in the country’s top Christian post.

Today's session was attended by 34 MPS out of 128 members. A quorum requires presence of 85 legislators.

Disagreements between the country's two major political camps; one led by Saad Al Hariri's Future Movement and the other topped by Hezbollah, have resulted in the impasse obstructing election of the nation's top man.

The presidential post has remained vacant since May 25, 2014, when mandate of the former president Michel Suleiman expired.
