Lebanese Foreign Minister Gibran Bassil won on Thursday the chairmanship of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) in succession of Michel Aoun.

The list of Bassil won the FPM elections by acclamation as the rival list didn't submit the necessary legal documents, FPM Secretary General Elie Khoury announced.

Michel Aoun is a former Lebanese army commander and founder of the FPM which has the largest Christian bloc in the Lebanese Parliament.
