Libya's internationally-backed government has approved to appoint former major general Khalifa Haftar as chief of the army.
The decision was okayed by the cabinet, a member of the parliament told MENA reporter.
Haftar has been promoted to lieutenant general, said Jalal al Showaihady.
Haftar is currently leading a military operation to expel rival militias from Tripoli and other main cities.
