Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Hadi al Dayri expressed hope that the meeting of Libyan chieftains in Cairo would come up with fruitful results.

Tribes are an important part of the Libyan society and they play an important role in settling many of the country's problems, he said in an interview with El Sharq El Awsat newspaper out Wednesday.

Around 434 chieftains are taking part in the Cairo reconciliation conference that opened on Monday.

He said he discussed with his Saudi counterpart during his latest visit to the kingdom ways of getting out of the current crisis gripping the country.

He expressed happiness of Saudi support of Libya in face of terrorism.

There are ongoing contacts between brothers in Gulf and Saudi Arabia to face terrorism in Libya which has been on the rise.

He noted that the US does not cooperate with Libya because it links fighting terrorism with the formation of a national unity government.

They refuse to arm the Libyan army as long as there is no national unity government in the country, he said.
