Guards of Mitiga prison in Libyan capital of Tripoli repelled on Friday a gunmen attack against the facility, spokesman for the deterrence forces said.

Moaaz Khalil said that the forces were able to counter the attack occurred afternoon without giving details on casualties or damage.

Libya has been witnessing a rising insurgency by different rebel groups and militias and an increasing use of weapons since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
