Libya's Foreign Ministry

Libya's Foreign Ministry welcomed Saturday the UN Security Council's (UNSC) resolution on blacklisting the Islamist group Ansar al-Sharia as a terrorist organization.
On November 19, the UNSC slapped sanctions on Ansar al-Sharia for its ties to Al-Qaeda, with an arms embargo, assets freeze and global travel ban targeting the extremists going into force at the request of Britain, France and the United States.
In its statement, the ministry said the international community has finally realized crimes and threats posed by such extremist groups, which destabilized the country.
The Foreign Ministry considered the UNSC action a support to Libya's army, parliament, and the interim government in their fight against crimes perpetrated by Ansar al-Sharia against Libyan people and the country's legitimate institutions.
