Mahalla security chief Major General Hossam Khalifa denied Thursday that dozens of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) supporters has staged a rally in the city.
Some websites claimed that skirmishes have occurred between residents and MB supporters during a march staged by the latter, which pushed security forces to fire tear gas to disperse them.
"Such news is baseless, and we urge news outlets to seek accuracy in their coverage," said Khalifa.
He stressed that the security conditions were stable and all roads and governmental institutions were fully protected by police.
