Egyptian PM Ibrahim Mahlab

Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab chaired a meeting Thursday on developing river transport.

The meeting was attended by ministers of Local Development Adel Labib, Environment Khaled Fahmy, Water Resources and Irrigation Hossam Moghazy, Antiquities Mamdouh el Damaty and Transportation Hany Dahy as well as Cairo governor Galal el Said and number of officials concerned.

During the get-together, the water resources and irrigation minister said that there were 80 and 165 unlicensed berths and boats respectively.

The minister underlined that 55 berths as well as 112 boats were removed during the campaigns that was launched in cooperation with the Water Bodies Police, adding that at the end of the next week all the unlicensed berths will be cleared.

The environment minister said that there are campaigns carried out on hotels and tourist establishments based on the Nile River to remove encroachments.
