Security forces launched on Thursday an encroachment eviction campaign in Cairo's main districts, including downtown, Zamalek, Shoubra and Maadi.
Amid tight security measures, the forces cleared the encroachments, mostly temporary structures put up by shopkeepers and street vendors.
The authorities said the campaign aimed at easing movement of vehicles and pedestrians, adding that they would continue to have a close watch to prevent further violations.
