Nearly 63% of Egyptians believe Egypt suffers from religious extremism, while 25% say it does not, according to a recent opinion poll.
Moreover, 12% of Egyptians said they could not give an answer to the question, a survey by the Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Baseera showed.
Sixty-three percent of respondents said religious extremism will recede in the future, while 24% disagreed with the notion saying it will on the contrary rise and 12% were unsure, center director Maged Osman said.
The poll was conducted on 1,024 respondents older than 18 years in all governorates through home and cell phones on February 1 and 2.
