Tunisia's outgoing President Moncef Marzouki congratulated Leader of the Nidaa Tounes Party Beji Caid Essebsi for winning the country's presidential elections, a spokesperson said Monday.
Speaking to official state media, Marzouki's spokesperson Adnan Mansour stated that the ex-President has sent a cable of congratulations to the new Tunisian leader following the Higher Electoral Commission's announcement of his victory in the second round of the presidential elections on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi has also congratulated, in a statement, Essebsi for winning the elections, affirming Egypt's full support of Tunisia and aspiration to bolster cooperation ties between the two countries.
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has also sent a cable of congratulations to the new Tunisian leader, Algerian Presidency said in a statement.
British Foreign Minister Philip Hammond has also congratulated, in a press statement, Essebsi for winning the first democratic presidential elections in Tunisia, praising the significant turnout by the Tunisian people during the elections that showed their eagerness for a democratic government and a parliament.
