Matrouh Governor Alaa Abu Zeid inspected the main operations room at the city council to follow up the return of Egyptian nationals from restive Libya.
The state of emergency was stepped up at all hospitals in the border city of Salloum and extra buses were provided to transport the arriving nationals, Abu Zeid said.
The daily rate of nationals returning from Libya has increased to 1,500 crossing the border back home on Wednesday, he said.
