Members of the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE) and Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam congratulated Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb on being honored as the dignitary of the "Kuwait Capital of Islamic Culture 2016" and copping the Order of Kuwait - Grand Cordon of Special Class.

In a statement Tuesday, MCE Secretary General Ali el Nueimi said the honoring of Sheikh Tayyeb - who also chairs the MCE) - crowns the efforts exerted by the imam to entrench the principles of moderate Islam and humanitarian peace.

Allam added that honoring Tayyeb comes in appreciation of the grand imam's efforts to confront extremism and terror.
