The Interior Ministry has warned that the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group is exploiting the state of anger at the trial results of deposed president Hosni Mubarak and former top security officials in the killing of 2011 protesters to trigger violence and chaos on the Egyptian streets.
In statements to MENA, the ministry's spokesman Hani Abdel Latif said that a number of MB members tried to incite protesters at Abdel Monem Riyad Square in downtown Cairo against security forces but the demonstrators refused, leading to brawls between the two sides.
The spokesman added that the number of the MB supporters increased in the square and they hurled stones at security forces, chanting slogans against the army and police and disrupted traffic.
The forces dispersed the protesters and contained the situation, the spokesman said.
Calm prevailed in the square and traffic was resumed, he concluded.
