Egypt's Mufti Shawky Allam congratulated on Friday Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb on receiving an honorary PhD from the Indonesian University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim.

In a statement, Allam said this move reflects the prestigious scientific and religious position of Tayyeb abroad.

He praised efforts exerted by Tayyeb to spread the moderate teachings of Islam all over the world.
