Egypt's Mufti Shawky Allam underlined that Islam is an open universal structure encouraging Muslims to build bridges with others.
During a meeting Friday with Indian Premier Narendra Modi on the fringe of a conference on the role of spiritual values on confronting terror and extremism, Allam said the main goal of all religions is realizing universal peace. This is the method upon which Egypt depends in handling religious extremism.
He said Islam is against all kinds of terror and extremism.
He said combating extremism requires cooperation between religious scholars, decision makers and international media.
Meanwhile, Modi said he highly appreciates Egypt's role and position.
The premier said he is keen on maintaining positive relationship with Egypt and enhancing it for the best interest of the two nations.
Defeating terrorist thought is a victory for humanitarian values that would realize global stability, he concluded.
