Egypt’s Mufti Shawqi Allam urged the resident of Tahna al Gabal village in Minya, Upper Egypt, to exercise self-restraint and face bids to ignite sectarian strife after a fight erupted between Muslims and Copts in the village left one person killed and two others injured.

In a statement, Allam urged all the residents, both Muslims and Copts, to exercise self-restraint so the situation can return to normal.

He urged officials in charge to apply the law on all sides.
