Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry named on Wednesday counselor Ahmed Abu Zeid as the ministry's new spokesman in succession of Badr Abdel Aati who was nominated to serve as Egypt's ambassador to Germany.
Abu Zeid, who will also supervise the diplomacy department at the ministry, will assume office mid August.
He has served before in Egypt's embassy in Washington as well as Egypt's consulate in San Francisco.
Abu Zeid, also worked at the Foreign Minister's office for many years as he was responsible for the file of Africa and Egypt's relations with Nile basin states.
He represented Egypt in many international committees, including the International Liaison Group on Somalia, the international mediation support team on Darfur, the International Liaison Group on fighting piracy and the international government expert team on combating the spread of light an small-sized weapons.
Abu Zeid is a member of the national committee tasked with Nile water file and the tripartite committee on Ethiopia dam.
Before joining the diplomatic corps, he was working as an adviser for the international cooperation department at the cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center and the Social Fund for Development.
