Tahya Masr

A new residential city will be established for slum dwellers in El Mokattam district of Cairo, Executive Director of the Tahya Masr (Long Live Egypt) Fund Mohamed Ashmawy said on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference, Ashmawy said the first phase of the Tahya Masr residential city includes 10,000 housing units.

"The first phase will be handed over to beneficiaries within two months," he added.

Ashmawy noted that the 16,500-home residential city is established on an area of 280 feddans.

Only the most needy slum dwellers will be allowed to move to the new residential city, he said.

The press conference came on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of a cooperation protocol between the Tahya Masr Fund and the Ministry of Military Production to train and employ youths at the ministry's training centers.

The protocol aims to qualify and train homeless children in a number of professions and handicrafts.

The deal will also involve developing slums and the most needy villages.
