The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced here on Sunday a package of urgent measures aiming to combat terrorism and extremism that have negative impacts on OIC member states in the region.
Following an emergency meeting, the OIC Executive Committee called for holding a meeting that includes legal experts specialized in terrorism issues to modify the 1999 OIC Convention in order to formulate new mechanisms aiming at confronting ideology of terrorism in OIC member states.
The meeting called for intensifying debates and dialogues on terrorism-related crimes through holding conferences, seminars and workshops to be attended by politicians, scholars and international leaders.
It also urged the OIC member states to create a new approach so as to combat causes that trigger tribal violence and ways of addressing them.
The gathering called on the OIC to establish partnerships with some regional and international organizations to combat terrorism, underling the significance of reactivating the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT).
It appreciated Saudi Arabia's contributions totaling USD 110 million to support ICCT's activities, calling for creating jobs for youth to keep them away from being exploited by terrorist groups.
