New York - QNA
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) urged the UN Security Council to move to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people in the independence of their state on the borders of the 4th of June with Alquds as its capital in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative.
The OIC also stressed that lack of accountability of any party using chemical weapons in Syria would detract from the standing, prestige and credibility of the Security Council and will help the Syrian authorities to proceed with its injustice and arrogance.
This came in a speech by Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Almoalimi before the Security Council on Tuesday, on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the item about the situation in the Middle East.
Almoalimi said, "I would like on behalf of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to welcome the decision of the State of Palestine to officially join the International Criminal Court and look forward to sister Palestine joining the United Nations as a full membership state," thus achieving a part of justice that it has been denied from over the past decades.
Almoalimi said that Palestine's accession to the International Criminal Court, in addition to being a natural right, is an important step towards holding accountable those responsible for the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and other crimes against the Palestinians.
Almoalimi detailed Israeli continued violations of international law, reiterating call for all states to reaffirm their commitment to supporting justice and international legitimacy through the full recognition of the State of Palestine on the borders of the 4th of June 1967 with Alquds as its capital.
He added that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation stresses the need to end the Israeli occupation of Arab territories, including the occupied Syrian Arab Golan and the Lebanese territory.
Almoalimi noted Israel's continued intransigence against the Palestinian people and the serious threat of terrorist acts carried out by the Israeli terrorist settlers against the Palestinian people under the Israeli occupation. He condemned in the strongest terms the attacks on Islamic and Christian holy places in the Palestinian occupied territories.
Almoalim added that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation holds Israel fully responsible for the atrocities and heinous crimes committed by extremist settlers against the Palestinian people.
He stated said that the situation in the Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate due to the Israeli siege and the repercussions of the Israeli aggression last summer.
On Syria, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation confirmed that the situation in sisterly Syria, after four consecutive years, has become the greatest humanitarian tragedy in this century.
Almoalim said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stresses its condemnation of terrorism and its support for the Syrian people.
